MY AMERICAN FOOD HAUL

Favourite treats and sweets

One thing I’m incredibly jealous of is the range and variety of foods the US of A has on offer that we don’t. So many incredibly delicious and diverse variations of Oreos, Cookie Butters, Chocolate Treats, Pop Tarts and so much more! All of which we miss out on, here in Australia…unless you’re lucky enough to stumble across an American themed grocer or candy store.

So it’s a good thing a few brands are making their way across the ditch into our back yard or I’d consider moving just for this reason…I don’t even think I’m being too dramatic here… food really is my life

But, never fear (be still my heart), my sister-in-law’s globe-trotting has finally lead her home and my mini American food haul is here!

Although I couldn’t go with her, my list certainly did, and it included some of what I considered to be the most delicious of American treats. Below I have included the list of what I received and over the next few recipes that I post I will highlight each of my favourites. This list will be in no particular order because, when it comes to sweet foods, most are worthy of my number one spot!

Of course with Thanksgiving and Christmas fast approaching I had to include some pumpkin spiced flavoured goodies, some of which will be included in my upcoming recipes…Yum! I’m thinking something along the lines of pumpkin spiced, gooey chocolate brownies (drool)!

So here we have it, first up:

  • Pumpkin Pie Spice and Pumpkin Pie Spice Cookie Butter

How do I even begin to explain this little shaking bottle of heaven! It seriously hosts such a gorgeous mixture of beautiful spices that all come together to really pack a punch in the flavour department! With a mix of cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, etc. It’s perfect for savoury and desserts alike…but since I’m a lover of all things sweet, there’s no going past the dessert option for me and later on this week I’ll be posting a delicious recipe that I feel shows off the deliciousness of this mix!

Pumpkin Pie Spice seems to be a definite staple in American households and after being exposed to it for a little while now, I can totally understand why! Along with that Pumpkin Pie Spiced Cookie Butter, it’s outstanding and honestly, I’m tempted to put it in and on almost everything at the moment.

Pumpkin Pie Spiced Cookie Butter you ask? I know! As if food could get any better, now your favorite treats can be found in a spreadable butter form! I just can’t even explain how delicious this is so If you can get your hands on either one of these then definitely buy in bulk and start exploring the recipes you can incorporate it into (or onto). Some of my favorites are pumpkin spice snickerdoodle cookies, a classic pumpkin pie and even in a delicious cup of pumpkin pie spiced latte!

Okay, I could talk on Pumpkin Pie Spice all day so before I get too carried away let’s address the elephant in the room… that beautiful blue, sugar coated elephant that is…

  • Birthday Cake and Cinnamon Bun flavoured Oreos

OREOS! *now were in business!* If you can’t tell from the smile on my face, I was probably the most excited to get my hands on these babies. I feel the birthday cake flavor was a definite ‘must have’ given the copious amounts of real birthday cakes I create and, more importantly, the ones I devour.

Secondly, the Cinnamon Bun flavor which I was just so intrigued by. I was skeptical as to just how ‘cinnamon bun like’ it would be…but, results in and both were absolutely amazing. Now, even though (as promised) the first packet tasted exactly like birthday cake batter, it was those Cinnamon Bun Oreos that took the cake #sorrypunintended.

The smell, the flavor and of course the beautiful light colouring just sing together in sweet, sweet cinnamon bun harmony.

  • S’mores Pop Tart!

Now onto the S’mores Pop Tart! Well, needless to say this was bought purely for my enjoyment…and thoroughly enjoy it I did, but boy oh boy did it provide some good inspiration for recipes! Based off this little sandwich delight I created a crunchy Toasted S’mores Ice cream which is AMAZING and I promise I will share it with you all once I get the chance to re-create it. For now, I’m just a little too pumpkin spiced obsessed!

  • Reese’s Pieces

These are obviously not a new creation and many of you may have been in love with these guys for a while now but these Reeses Pieces are so scrumptious my family and I couldn’t help but devour the box before I got the chance to get stuck into baking with them. Luckily we have a very closely related product on our supermarket shelves now and so I was able to incorporate Reeses Baking Chips into some upcoming recipes… which not so coincidentally also disappeared just as fast.

  • Milk Duds

I have to say these have a familiar consistency, taste and chew of good ol’ Fantales and it was way too easy to devour a lot in one sitting. Although, my daughter tried to do so all in one mouthful and needless to say she couldn’t quite chew as much as she could bite off, hah - totally delicious all the same!

  • Ghirardelli Squares- Pumpkin Spice Caramel, Peppermint Bark, and Egg Nog variety bags

Honestly, I don’t even know where to begin. Each flavor was mouthwatering and each reminded me of different moments in my life from where I first tasted each of those flavours. The peppermint of my first candy cane and the egg nog from my first Christmas alcoholic egg nog drink. Nothing like a treat to bring back sweet memories! But, if I had to pick a favourite it would have to be the Pumpkin Spice Caramel…call me an addict but with the seasonal spike of spices (try saying that 3 times fast!) mixed with my already favorite treat (caramel) you have a total match made in heaven! If anyone knows how to flavour such delectable chocolate, its Ghirardelli.

  • Disney’s Specialty Blend of Black Tea

I love a good cup of tea. Growing up with an English mum, there is nothing quite like the relaxation that comes from a great ‘brew’, even in desserts! Tea has the power to enhance so many flavours and so, given this was a total surprise item, I’m going to leave my recipe ideas for this one as a total surprise! Get your mugs ready because you won’t want to miss out on it!

These are just some of my many favourite confections and now I’m armed with all my American goodies, a full stomach and mind full of inspiration, I’m ready to bake until my heart desires!

I hope you’re hungry because this week’s recipe is one you won’t want to miss.

So, what are your favourite American treats!?
